The Pickwick Landing Dam in Tennessee was built as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal in the 1930s to create a navigation channel and stimulate economic development in the area. Construction began on December 20, 1934 and was completed in 1938. The dam is 113 feet high and spans 7,715 feet across the Tennessee River, and it took 630,300 cubic yards of concrete to build. The dam is one of nine dams owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
